Tetris and its Multifarious Histories, or AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHSDFJISKJHIK

GOOD GOD WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU JAI IF YOU WANT I CAN FOLLOW YOU TO YOUR HOUSE AND GUIDE YOUR HAND THROUGH EVERY MOVEMENT AS I SHOW YOU HOW TO MAKE A LINEBREAK.

Deep breaths, French umbrella.

So. Media.

Lazy arse I am, I'ma make this as a factfile.

  •
  • Alexei Pajitnov, creator of the Tetris franchise, named his creation after his favourite sport, tennis, and the Latin/Greek (non-research FTW) word for 'four'.
  • Tetris is really mathematical. There are many (generalisation FTW) theorems involving the nomenclatic 'tetriminoes', which have themselves been considered since antiquity.
  • There have been major disputes over the pros and cons of tetriminoes stopping in the air when being spun, a feature implemented in some more recent (1990s onwards) ports.
  • Wait, you don't know the rules (SARCASM FTW!!!!!11)? If you are one of the teenage UK demographic, you are probably in a minority.
  • In the 1990s, nobody seemed to give a damn about licencing, with anybody and everybody (publishing status withstanding) wanting to release clones of the game.
  • The game has sold, across all of its platforms, hundreds of millions of copies.

  • Tetris holds nine records in Guiness World Records, including 'Most Ported Video Game'. Wikipedia gives the most mind-numbing examples of everything.
